Now here's one you don't see everyday - a beautiful Roy Orbison vintage concert poster from 1960. Both a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (1987) and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer, Roy had one of the most unique voices in Rock and Roll. Many singers said Roy's voice had a four octave range and such famous singers such as Elvis Presley and Bono have stated his voice was the greatest and most distinctive they have ever heard; you just don't get compliments like that without being more than good.
Roy stated his recording career at Sun Records in the later 50's and hit his first career peak in the early and mid sixties with such songs as Only the Lonely, Crying and Oh Pretty Woman and then in 1988 he joined the super group, The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. Sadly he died only a shot time thereafter.
What's special about this poster are many things: the picture of Roy prior to his trademark dark heavy glasses and black attire outfits, in fact he looks more like a teenage Jerry Lee Lewis than himself; a beautiful early Tilghman Press classic concert poster and a venue at a local Skate Arena; which reminds us what times used to be like when you could see some of the most famous music artists of all time for less than $2 - now those were some terrific times!
